“In a modern and innovative society, where advancements are plentiful and communication is instantaneous, science and technology are a part of our everyday life.”

— Julie Payette

1. E-books

As much as I love smelling and feeling the texture of tangible books, the ones I have grown to live with were really those that are read on-screen — the e-books. What’s not to love about e-books anyway? Aside from the fact that they’re cheaper in terms of price, they also come in a very handy shape since they are easily accessible in any gadget at any time you like.

I started reading e-books at an online platform famously known as “Wattpad”, wherein I’ve read stories like “Tantei High” and “Montello High: The School of Gangsters”. Then, when I have come to unearth John Green’s books’ existence, it paved the way for me to read e-books from international authors through various available sites across the digital space. Also, speaking from the viewpoint of a Political Science student, I can say that e-books are really a huge help to me since choosing to buy the ‘thick and expensive’ readings became just an option and not a must. All thanks to the e-book’s magic.

2. Social Media Applications

Thanks to the brilliance of science and Technology, the era of social media was galvanized. Along with this occurrence, Pinterest was born, Facebook existed, and Instagram came to life. It became one of the million ways for me to keep up with what’s happening to the world. Furthermore, it also allowed me to communicate and reach out to my friends without leaving the comforts of our home. All in all, while social media has unarguably its own fair share of downsides, I would still not say that it is all just that. To an introverted kid like me, it surely is ‘oftentimes’ a blessing.

3. Online Music Streaming Platforms

Music is my religion. I could never live without it. To imagine a world without its existence is like living in the bleakest time of my life; and that is not an exaggeration, at least on my part.

Back in the 90s and in the early 2000s, buying physical albums of the artists we love and downloading every song we like to listen in websites are considered a must if you want to listen to be able to listen to music. While these things are still relatable today, we are not really compelled to do so anymore. As the innovations of Science and Technology continue to flourish, we can now stream any song we want to hear with just one click. For instance, Spotify and Deezer let us vibe to our current moods without downloading the songs first and just deleting them later to save phone space. That is why, through these online streaming platforms, I was given just the right amount of comfort I want.

4. Movie Sites & Applications

I grew up living around people who love watching movies, and that became the reason why such an attitude eventually grew in me as well. When I was a kid, whenever a new ‘Barbie’ movie is released, the only choice I have is to buy that disk in order to watch it. But now, whenever I want to watch any movie genre, I only need to do a little searching job before hitting that “play” button afterward. And that’s it! I am already good to go. Therefore, I really find this work of Science a great one since we would no be anymore wasting money on buying movies that we, later on, find as boring. On Netflix, I can just press the “home” button and look for another movie that would perfectly suit m taste.

5. Online Shops

Shopee, Lazada, and Shein are the online stores that I usually visit on my phone. They fascinate me because they help me save both time and energy, especially when compared to strolling in the mall. It also allows me to browse the things I want to buy and check them out whenever I feel like doing it. Also, these are helpful for those that are still starting to put up small businesses. It gives them an opportunity to reach out to tons of customers without spending so much on building or renting physical stores to display their merchandise. Overall, I really find them advantageous from both THE customer’s and seller’s perspectives. That is why I consider online stores as one of the things I love about Science and Technology.
